So… how do you really know what is best for your vehicle? There are various factors that go into how long you should wait until your next oil change. For starters, you can follow the oil type, mileage and time recommendations that are in your owner’s manual. (Lost your owner's manual? Just look it up online!) In most cases, we suggest your first oil change at 5,000 miles. For newer vehicles, it is definitely easier to stretch out after that 5k mark. Whereas older vehicle’s might need to get checked more frequently. Aside from when the vehicle was manufactured, driving habits can also play a huge role in how often you get your oil changed. According to AAA*, severe service can include:

Short trips (5 miles or less)
Extreme weather conditions (hot or cold)
Sustained stop-and-go traffic driving
Carrying heavier items such as towing or a trailer

If you fall into any of these categories, you might require your vehicle being serviced for an oil change more frequently than expected. While the Mazda3 maintenance schedule is straightforward, it’s important to check whether you set your oil change monitor to “Flexible” or “Fixed.” This will influence the frequency that you check certain components of your car. But, under normal driving conditions in Bedford, this is the recommended schedule:

Every Year: inspect your disc brakes
Every Two Years: inspect fuel lines/hoses, brake lines, hoses, and connections, steering operation, front and rear suspension, driveshaft dust boost, and tighten bolts and nuts and chassis and body

Replace spark plugs at 75,000 miles and rotate tires at 5,000 miles

MAZDA6 MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

The Mazda6 maintenance schedule shares many similarities with the Mazda3 maintenance schedule. In fact, Mazda recommends following the same schedule for yearly, bi-yearly, and three year maintenance needs. Here are the changes from the fourth year onward:

Every Four Years: Inspect hoses and tubes for emission
Every Five Years: Inspect the exhaust system and heat shields
Replace air filter every three years
Replace engine oiland filter when wrench indicator light is ON. Max interval is 12 months / 7,500 miles
Replace engine coolant at 120,000 miles / 10 years, and at 60,000 miles / 5 years after the first replacement
Replace cabin air filter every two years
Replace spark plugs with SKYACTIV®-G 2.5 every 75,000 miles, and every 40,000 miles with SKYACTIV®-G 2.5T
Rotate tires every 7,500 miles

How to Properly Disinfect the Interior of Your Vehicle

If you have been watching the news or scrolling through social media, you should have seen the do’s and don'ts for washing your hands and keeping everything sanitized and safe! However, we hardly see any information about how to properly clean our cars. This is tricky because unlike your countertops and door knobs, some cleaning solutions can be damaging to the interior of your vehicle. Let’s take a look and what is safe and what we should stay away from when disinfecting our cars! Why is cleaning your car so important?

If you go out for a grocery run, following guidelines, you should take those groceries home, disinfect the item, any area that was touched by the item, and wash your hands. Those groceries are sitting in your car, your hands - even while wearing gloves - would have touched the groceries and are now transferring contaminants to everything you touch. This includes your car door handles, your seat and seat belt, your steering wheel, your display screen along with any volume or other buttons, probably your arm rest, wipers and turn signals, mirrors, window buttons, and just about every single part of your vehicle. So while you are worrying about bringing coronaviruses into your house, you should also be thinking about how many germs are in your car. The good news is, with taking the appropriate measures to sanitize and clean, you will be able to prevent the spread!

What Works

When looking at what is effective and good to use, you should be safe with just about any alcohol solution that contains at least 70% alcohol. You best bet though will definitely be Isopropyl Alcohol. Isopropyl Alcohol has been tested on plastic trim to imitation leather to painted chrome, and has been proven to not degrade the material.* What if you don’t have this lying around and you are taking every precaution to stay home unless completely necessary? Vigorous washing with soap and water can destroy a coronavirus. Just do not scrub it too hard as you risk the chance of removing dyes in your leather or damaging your fabric upholstery. For spot cleaning, you can use a simple Ivory soap and water. If you have a leather interior, any leather cleaner will work just fine. There is also the option of using a small amount of water with laundry detergent. When disinfecting your vehicle, it is recommended to use a microfiber cloth. This will be the safest and gentlest option.

What Not to Use

When we talk about which products you shouldn’t use, it is only because they can be damaging to your car. These products can be great for tabletops and kitchen sinks. For starters, do not use bleach or hydrogen peroxide. These can very easily damage the interior. When cleaning your screens, stay away from ammonia-based cleaners as these can damage the anti-glare or anti-fingerprint coatings. Lastly, as said before, when scrubbing something down, be careful not to scrub the surface too hard. In addition to keeping your car clean, make sure to continue to wash your hands before and after driving. Coming Soon - Grand Opening of New Store

If you’ve been following our social media posts or have driven by the corner of Rockside and Northfield, you should know by now that Mazda of Bedford is building a brand new store! But what exactly sets this building apart from our current location? Great question, along with a plethora of updates to just about everything, I wanted to highlight a few key features that we will offer upon opening. To start off, our Service Department will be much larger. We will have so many more lifts. Which yes, is still under construction but we are getting closer and closer! This allows our technicians to have more space to work as well as being able to hold more vehicles at once. To continue with the Service Department updates, we will now have a Service Drive-In. When you arrive, you will be able to drive your car right up. We will post a video on how this works as soon as it’s finished, so be on the look out for this awesome addition! Within the Service Department, we will also have new and improved, updated alignment technology, as well as a drive-thru car wash. If you’ve had your car washed with us before, you know we only have a drive in and out wash, like a garage. Now, we will offer a drive-thru car wash to make things run more efficiently! Our current waiting areas for Service and Sales are very distant from each other. With this new building, comes a new waiting area - all combined in one. All the departments will be much more integrated and more easily accessible to go from one department to another. We know while you wait for your vehicle, sometimes you want to get your work done. We will have faster and state-of-the-art wifi available, to speed up not only your devices, but ours too! Along with all these updates and advanced technology, the look of the building will also be much more modern. Mazda of Bedford has been in business since 1972 - that’s 48 years! Car shopping can be one of the most stressful things to do - but it doesn’t have to be! We wanted to start with the basics on whether you should lease or buy your next vehicle! We put together some information that gives you the pros and cons of both. Take a look! To start off: What is leasing? Vehicle leasing is using a vehicle for a fixed amount of time at an agreed price. There is usually an amount due at signing and then the balance is paid over the duration of the term. After the contract is up, you either return the vehicle or you can purchase it. What are the benefits of leasing?

When leasing a new car, the cost you pay per month is usually lower than if you were to buy the car.
You’ll be driving something with the newest technology and most advanced safety features.
You won’t have to worry about repairing your vehicle over the years since most leases run 2-4 years each.
You won’t have to worry about selling or trading an old car because when your lease is up, just drive it to the dealership to lease another!
